Christman Family Story

Randy and Sharon Christman would never have been eligible for a traditional mortgage. Randy is currently unable to work due to disability, but previously attended vocational school in Hutchinson and received his degree in nondestructive testing. Following his graduation, he got a job out in Trenton, NJ, but following his disability he moved back to Minnesota. Sharon works hard everyday as a homemaker and full time caretaker for Randy. They both were thrilled to hear they were accepted into a partnership with Central MN Habitat for Humanity.
Randy and Sharon have three sons. Justin, age 18, and Ryan, age 15, are living at home and attending high school. They are both very excited about their new home because it means they will be moving closer to school, activities, and friends. They have been helping out with program requirements a lot. The oldest son, Nathan, is 20 years old and in the army. He is currently stationed in California where he is learning to translate Korean.
Randy and Sharon were responsible for finishing 200 hours of sweat equity each and Justin had to finish 100 hours. They worked hard to finish and helped with a variety of tasks including shoveling snow for senior citizens, working at the Paynesville Community Center, helping around the Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity office, and helping with finishing touches on their future home.
While working on their house, they met people from a variety of walks, all of whom have been wonderful. They were also approached with congratulations by community members who helped with the construction of the home. They say they are surprised and grateful for how many people helped to make it possible for them to own a home.
They were extremely anxious to finish everything so that they can move into their home and be homeowners for the first time. All of the hard work paid off and they closed on their house in March of 2011.
