Hussein Bati and Anab Hassan

When Hussein Bati shared with his wife Anab and eight children learned that they were approved to become homeowners, the kids ran around in excitement and asked when they could move in! Their children Fardosa, Omar, Mohamed, Faiza, Abdulfatah, Naima, Ruweyda and Yusuf are all excited to have a place they can call their own.
The family has lived in St. Cloud since 2003 and currently rent a 4 bedroom home. Before they moved to the United States, they lived in Kenya for 8 years. Hussein was a nurse and helped at refugee camps and Anab worked in a grocery store. They moved to New Jersey and then made their way to Minnesota in 2000. Hussein has three jobs: at a manufacturing plant, as an interpreter and as a mentor.
The children have big dreams of becoming doctors, dentists and nurses. Hussein and Anab know that having their own home will give their family a space of their own and will allow their children to follow their dreams. The children also love to play basketball, soccer and anything outside. They love to share meals and stories and wherever they go you are sure to find them smiling!
The family is excited about owning a home and has been working hard on their sweat equity hours. Like anyone else they are nervous about the maintenance of their home, but are looking forward to having a space for all of their family to live more comfortably. They have enjoyed interacting with other volunteers and want to send a big “Thank you” to all of the people who have made their goal of becoming homeowners possible!
