Genesis House, located in St. Joseph, was generously donated to CMHFH by the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict in 2021. Before coming to us, Genesis House was lived in by some of the sisters. Now, we are in the process of renovating it and preparing it for our partner homebuyers, Hussein and Hawa.
Hussein and Hawa previously rented an apartment in St. Joe and are excited to be part of the St. Joe community again, this time as homeowners!
They enjoy Central Minnesota’s small-town community feel, the school systems for their children, and the job opportunities. They have a support system of friends and family here, too.
Hussein and Hawa met in Africa and moved to Central Minnesota in 2015. Their current apartment is small and not well maintained. They do not feel safe having their children go outside to play. The family is looking forward to a safe home with more space, a yard for their children to play in, and a place to grow a garden to feed their family and friends.
Hussein works at Jennie-O and Hawa works at Walmart. They have seven children, ranging from a newborn to a nine-year-old. Their children enjoy fixing things, pretending to be doctors and teachers, playing outside, school, books and reading, playing with other children, and exploring new things.
Hussein and Hawa have a strong relationship and are looking forward to the stability homeownership will provide for their family. Their dreams for the future are to improve their English language skills and for their children to continue their education and grow to be helpful, kind, respectful adults.
