Mowlid and Muna learned of Habitat through a social media event. They had been looking for a stable, affordable place to live where they could raise their family and build a better future. The limited space and rising cost of rentals make it difficult for them to feel secure and hard to focus on the other important parts of life. They applied to Habitat for Humanity hoping for a safe, stable, and affordable home where their family can grow and feel at peace.
Mowlid and Muna both work in the home health care field. Mowlid also provides interpreting services.
Mowlid and Muna met through mutual friends from high school and their connection quickly turned into a strong and lasting relationship. Becoming a part of the St Cloud community was a conscious choice for the couple. “As we started thinking about our future together, Central Minnesota stood out to us. We were drawn not only to the natural beauty of the area but also to the warmth and support of the community. It felt like the kind of place where we could truly put down roots somewhere safe, welcoming, and full of opportunity. We knew it would be a wonderful place to raise a family, grow both personally and professionally, and build a meaningful life together.”
Their six children range in age from 6 months to 11 years. They each have their own unique interests. Riding bikes, playing outside, drawing, reading, building with blocks, playing pretend games, music, cuddles, and tummy time are some favorites. They all love spending time together as a family, especially during playtime or story time. The children are excited about having their own space to play, study, and grow. They often talk about decorating their rooms and playing safely in a yard. More than anything, they’re looking forward to feeling settled and having a place where they can build memories without the fear of having to move again.
Mowlid and Muna’s goals for the future include wanting to give their children a strong foundation so they can succeed in school and follow their own dreams. “Owning a home is a big part of that goal, it means stability, security, and hope. It would mean no longer worrying about rent increases or unsafe living conditions. A place where our family can grow, feel safe, and have the freedom to build a better future. It would also give our children a consistent environment to focus on their education and feel proud of where they live. Most of all, we want to create a future filled with opportunity, peace, and happiness for our family.”
When asked what they would want others to know about their family, they answered: “We would like people to know that our family is hardworking, grateful, and full of hope. We support one another and are doing our best to build a better life, despite the challenges we’ve faced. We believe in kindness, community, and the importance of having a safe and stable place to call home. Being part of the Habitat for Humanity program means so much to us, it’s not just about having a house, but about having a future filled with possibility and security. We are thankful for the opportunity and excited for what’s ahead.”
SabreCON 4 is our fourth build with Sartell-St. Stephen High School in Sartell. Students at the high school will build the upper portion of the house during the 2024-25 school year. This partnership with CMHFH helps students prepare for promising careers in the trades. High school students gain experience framing, installing siding, roofing, trim, and cabinetry. College students complete the plumbing and electrical work. As a result, 50+ students exit the program ready to start their careers each year.
