Spartan 2 is our second build with Rocori High School in Cold Spring. Students at Rocori built the upper portion of the house during the 2022-23 school year. This partnership with Habitat helps students prepare for promising careers in the trades. High school students gain experience framing, installing siding, roofing, trim, and cabinetry. College students complete the plumbing and electrical work. As a result, 50+ students exit the program ready to start their careers each year.
Upon completion, this house will be purchased by Ladián. Hardworking and optimistic, Ladián sees “nothing but good things” for the future and is sustained by a strong faith life.
She was born in Crystal City, Texas. Her parents were migrant workers who traveled to North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin each summer to work in the fields. When Ladián was four years old, her mother found employment with IBM, and the family relocated to Wisconsin. During this time, her family moved into a home through a program for low-income families similar to Habitat for Humanity.
After spending time in Texas and the Midwest, Ladián ventured to California in 2009 and traveled the West coast. Four years later, tired of a fast-paced life and looking for a fresh start, she moved to St. Cloud, where a good friend resided. Ladián has been a St. Cloud-area resident ever since and says “St. Cloud is home.”
Ladián works at Walmart. She loves to cook and bake, and her signature dishes are any Mexican food and her homemade salsa.
Ladián has a flair for decorating and envisions her future home as a “small English cottage” complete with a white picket fence surrounded by flowers and shrubs. She is looking forward to owning her forever home and can’t wait to have friends visit her and have BBQs in the back yard.
