Get Involved
There are lots of waysto get involved.

From making a donation to volunteering to sponsoring a build and more, your support builds a stronger community for all of us.
Become a volunteer
Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity has a variety of volunteer opportunities for everyone. Your help onsite makes the dream of affordable homeownership possible for members of our community. Our volunteers help us save on labor costs to further our mission.
You can volunteer as a group, as a company, or as an individual. It’s a great way to get involved and make a difference in the community.

Questions about
volunteering?
Here are some common questions. If you still have questions, please contact us for more information.

Do I need construction experience to volunteer?
Answer: You do not! We welcome volunteers of every experience level. Even if you’ve never held a hammer before, our construction supervisors and lead volunteers will teach you everything you need to know.

Do I have to volunteer the entire day?
Answer: All of our volunteer shifts are four hours long. We usually have two shifts most weekdays: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You can sign up for a shortened shift if approved by the Volunteer Coordinator. Just be sure to let our construction supervisors know when you get there. Please email Ashley with any questions at AOgaja@cmhfh.org. Just be sure to let our construction supervisors know when you get there!

What do I need to bring to volunteer on-site?
Answer: All of the tools you’ll need are provided by us. We also have plenty of water available on-site, but feel free to bring your own water bottle, as well any sunscreen or bug spray you may need. Closed-toed shoes are required for safety.

Do you only build during the warmer months of the year?
Answer: CMHFH builds year-round. During the winter, most of our volunteer opportunities are in heated and sheltered areas.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?
Answer: For safety reasons, all of our construction volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age. Any minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Who can volunteer with CMHFH?
Answer: Anyone can volunteer with us! We welcome everyone who believes in our mission of safe, decent, and affordable homeownership.

Make a gift in kind
Habitat for Humanity ranks within the top 20 homebuilders in the United States and as the largest privately held homebuilder. Materials for the homes we build, land, and home donations are our most valued gifts-in-kind.
For example, each of the homes we build requires approximately 150 pounds of nails and 400 two-by-fours. With the average Habitat home consisting of 1,200 square feet, these numbers add up fast. Donations of building materials from wholesale and retail businesses are extremely welcome!
If you have a gift-in-kind you’d like to donate, please contact our Construction Manager, Caleb, at CLarson@cmhfh.org.

Become a partner
We understand that sponsorships aren’t for everyone. Your business or organization can still be involved in our work through a partnership.
Partnerships are customizable and all about what your organization can and wants to give. This can include donating financially, matching employee gifts, volunteering with us, or advocacy efforts.
If you’re interested in partnering with us, please contact our Executive Director, Chad Bouley, at CBouley@cmhfh.org, for more information.
Create a legacy with planned giving
Planned giving is for anyone who wants to create a legacy of supporting affordable housing. You can start planning a gift at any stage of your life and there are many ways to give.
- Make a legacy gift in your will or trust by bequeathing part of your estate
- Make CMHFH a beneficiary of a retirement plan, CD, life insurance fund, or a bank or brokerage account
- Donate real estate
As with all charitable gifts, please be sure to consult with your attorney or financial advisor to make sure your gift complies with state laws, receives maximum tax benefits, and that your wishes are reflected accurately in all the necessary legal documents.
