Great Contributions Recognized at 2020 Spotlight on Gratitude

April 8, 2020

We were honored to host our donors, volunteers, and partners at our annual Spotlight on Gratitude event in March. Under the spotlights of the Great Theatre stage, we enjoyed food, drinks, and great company as we recognized all of the contributions made by our supporters in 2019.

Hailey Hollenhorst (Board President), Joe and Ann Harren (Owners of Westwind Woodworkers – 2019 Business Partner of the Year),  and Rick Nelson (Executive Director)

Special recognition was given to our Hall of Fame inductees: Westwind Woodworkers, Business Partner of the Year, and Jim Meyer, Volunteer of the Year. Additionally, Michaela Roske and Steve Buley both received engraved Habitat for Humanity hammers for achieving their 500 volunteer hour milestone.

Our 2019 Business Partners of the Year, Westwind Woodworkers, has been dedicated Habitat partners since 2006 giving over $70,000 of in-kind donations. They have been an important contributor to our Tiger Build initiatives, donating materials and expertise, for Tiger Builds 1 through 5! This program’s success is in huge part because of generous community partners such as Westwind Woodworkers. In addition to the in-kind Tiger Build material donation, Westwind has provided labor and materials, for 5 other builds, including Veterans Build, Women Build and Thrivent Builds.

2019 Volunteer of the Year:  Jim Meyer (Volunteer & PT Project Superintendent) on a CMHFH work site

Our 2019 Wilbur Wilkens Award winner, Jim Meyer, has recorded over 1,000 volunteer hours since 2010.  He was our extremely dedicated and committed volunteer site supervisor for our 2014 Three Rivers Thrivent, Big Lake Build.  His expertise and volunteer leadership were huge contributions to the completion of that home.  His volunteer hours also include leading volunteer construction crews as a volunteer site supervisor, being part of our skilled millwork crew, lawn mowing and serving as a past ReStore volunteer.

During his many volunteer hours, Jim shares his vast construction knowledge and wonderful caring, instructive nature with volunteer crews.  As one construction crew volunteer recently stated, “We have worked with Jim many times, and he is very patient with us and forgiving of our mistakes.  He makes us want to return!” We’re luck to have had Jim recently join the CMHFH staff as PT Project Superintendent!

Jessica Dahl (Volunteer Coordinator), Mary Amann (Retired Volunteer Coordinator), Steve Buley & Michaela Roske (500 Volunteer Hour Milestone Engraved Hammer Recipients), and Rick Nelson (Executive Director)

Two of our other committed volunteers surpassed their 500 hour milestone in 2019: Steve Buley and Michaela Roske.

Steve is a blessing to have on our build sites and in our warehouse. We are grateful for the skilled enthusiasm Steve brings to the construction site, landscaping, painting and/or tuning up our lawn mowers!  Steve generously shares donations of mowers that are refurbished to give to our new habitat homeowners.

Michaela Roske is a dedicated CMHFH board member as well as a passionate volunteer. Michaela’s dedication to our habitat vision and mission can be felt on our build sites, in the boardroom and on a bike for the Habitat500.

Thank you to our many supporters for making 2019 a fantastic year celebrating our 30th anniversary and 100th home. We are looking forward to a great 2020 with construction under way on Tiger Build, Veterans Build, and Faith Builds homes.
