Winter is a great time to do some interior maintenance. What better, than to make sure your appliances are getting upkeep to make them last.
- Refrigerator: If you have exposed coils, gently vacuum off the dust to increase efficiency. If you have a broken shelf or drawer, now’s the time to order a new one. Check light and overall operation.
- Range: Not too much needs to happen here. Confirm operation of everything and clean the stove tops and interior. Most important, make sure the range has an anti-tip bracket and the stove is engaged in it.
- Range Hood: It’s time to clean or replace the grease filter. Typically warm, soapy water will do. Clean surfaces and check operation. If you have a light, this may be a good time to replace the bulb.
- Washer: Not too much maintenance is required here. Make sure all cycles are functioning. Check for any leaks. If you have transfer vibrations to floors you may want to add rubber anti-vibration pads.
- Dryer: Check for any blocks in the dryer venting. If a gas furnace, have the unit serviced by a licensed service provider to check for gas leaks and efficiency. If you have transfer vibrations to floors you may want to add rubber anti-vibration pads.
- Dishwasher: You may notice your dishes aren’t as clean. Your filter may be filled with debris and food. Pull out the lower rack and remove the filter cover inside the dishwasher. (Check your owner’s manual if you can’t spot the filter.) Then use a wet/dry vacuum to clean off the screen. Next, check the spray arms themselves for any blocks and remove them. Check full cycle operation.
