It’s the perfect time to freshen up your home’s exterior and ensure everything is in great shape after winter. The checklist below will help guide your spring maintenance—print it and keep it handy for future use!
✅ Home Exterior
- Clean gutters, and while up there, inspect the roof for damage or wear
- Inspect the foundation for cracks or water intrusion
- Check deck rails and steps to confirm they’re secure and in good shape
- Inspect decking for warps or worn fasteners, and repair as needed
- Check windows and screens for proper function (and wash them if you’re energetic!)
- Repair or replace caulking around windows and doors
- Turn on frost-proof sillcocks (hose spigots) and check for interior leaks
- Test all outdoor lights and replace bulbs as needed
- Remove any remaining Christmas lights
- Power wash siding if dirty or stained
- Inspect chimney and flashing for loose bricks or damage
- Schedule air conditioner service before the summer heat
🌿 Landscaping / Impervious Surfaces
- Rake leaves and fertilize lawn as desired
- Trim shrubs, bushes, and trees to encourage healthy growth
- Add or refresh mulch in garden beds
- Start irrigation system (if applicable) and check for leaks
- Service lawnmower as needed and start it
- Inspect and repair fences or gates as needed
- Confirm that soil is sloped away from the home to prevent drainage issues
- Check and clean exterior drains to avoid blockages
- Inspect retaining walls or edging for signs of movement or erosion
🚧 Driveway & Sidewalks
- Confirm positive drainage away from the home and foundation
- Inspect and fill cracks in concrete or asphalt
- Seal driveway if bituminous (asphalt)
- Check sidewalks for trip hazards or drainage concerns

- Follow ladder safety guidelines when cleaning gutters or inspecting the roof
